Manchester United are set to delay Mason Greenwood’s decision so the club can consult the women’s World Cup stars.
The Red Devils were hoping to decide whether Greenwood would allow him to continue at the club ahead of the opening game of the new Premier League season against Wolves next Monday.
But club bosses believe making the right decision is more important than an arbitrary deadline as they seek further consultation.
They are still in talks with key stakeholders, with Watchman Claiming that Man United wants players from its women’s World Cup team to be part of the process.
Marie Erbis, Ella Ton and Katie Zelm remain in Australia for the World Cup, which is a major factor in the time it takes to decide on Greenwood.
The Lionesses, who beat Nigeria on penalties last Monday, face Colombia in the quarter-finals on Saturday. If they win, they stay until the weekend of August 19-20.

Greenwood has not played for Manchester United since the 2021/22 season. He was arrested in January 2022 and later charged with attempted rape, domination, coercive conduct and assault causing actual bodily harm.
The 21-year-old denied all charges against him and they were dropped earlier this year.
The Man United forward, who graduated from the club’s youth academy, scored 35 goals in 129 appearances during his spell at Old Trafford.
He scored six goals in all competitions in the 2021/22 season, up from his 12 goals in all competitions the previous season and netting 17 goals in all competitions in his first full spell with the club.
