Morgan Schneiderlin’s contract with Manchester United expired after just nine days

Former Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has had his contract terminated just nine days after joining.

He fell out of favor when Jose Mourinho took over at Old Trafford and moved to Everton for £24m in 2017.

He played 88 times for the Toffees before returning to France with Nice, whom he represented on 59 occasions.

He finally completed his search for a new club at the beginning of the month when he signed with Turkish side Konyaspor, who finished eighth in the Süper Lig last season.

But the 33-year-old departed after just over a week, without even making a competitive appearance. The club took to Twitter to confirm the quick departure, which was mutually agreed for “family reasons”.

A statement on Twitter read: “Professional footballer Morgan Schneiderlin, whose transfer we announced recently, has informed our management that he wants to leave for family reasons.

“As a result of consultations and evaluations, our club treated Morgan Schneiderlin’s request favorably and terminated his contract by mutual agreement.”

Schneiderlin, who was capped 15 times with France, had a promising first season with United under Louis van Gaal and helped the club win the FA Cup.

He left to try to get regular playing time but regrets leaving, thinking things could have been different.

Schneiderlin told daily Mail.

“Maybe I would still be at Manchester United. When I signed, I wanted to be a legend there. That’s why I’m angry with myself and it will be difficult for the rest of my life.”

“My friends ask, ‘Why do you say that?’” But I know myself and what I can hold.

“I know this time at Manchester United affected me for the longest time in my career. I was so frustrated I couldn’t do what I wanted.”
